INCENSE STICK NAMED SWASTHYA DHOOP CHURNA MICROBIAL STUDY IN HOSPITAL ENVIRONMENT
ABSTRACT: -
Hospital buildings may be regarded as dynamic
environments affected by season, weather conditions, indoor ventilation system
design and operation, intrusion of moisture, outdoor microbial load and the
number of occupants, visitors and human activities. Airborne microorganisms,
such as bacteria, can originate not only from humans (including patients), but
can also be spawned by various indoor hospital characteristics and outdoor
environmental sources. These factors may be associated with conditions for microbial
growth, leading to bacterial air pollution. Poor hospital indoor air quality
may cause hospital-acquired infections, sick hospital
syndrome and various occupational hazards. Therefore, ensuring effective
disinfection procedures and regular monitoring measures of hospital environment
is essential for microbial control by detecting the irregular introduction of
airborne particles via clothing of visitors and medical staff or carriage by
personal and medical materials.

MEDIA
(1) Soyabean Casein Digest Agar / Plate count Agar (For bacterial count)
(2)
Sabouraud Dextrose Agar / SDA (For
fungal count )
Reference:-As per USP standards.
procedure
·
Prepare and sterilize agar media as per the
instruction given on the label of the respective pack of dehydrated media.
·
After
sterilization of the media, pour the media in enough quantity in labeled
disposable Petri plates or sterile Petri plates.
·
Allow the plates to solidify. Incubate all
the plates at 37°C± 1°C/ 25°C± 1°C overnight to check the sterility of the
medium.
·
Discard the plates showing growth of
microorganisms.
·
Expose the SCDA/SDA agar plates at various
sites for about 4 hr’s before study in different environment.
·
After completion of 4 hr’s start dhoop in
room for 30 mins. of 30 mins. (Stick dose 6 gm during fogg).
·
Fogg is continuous removed again exposed
plate in same locatation.
·
Again,
immediately expose the SCDA/SDA agar plates for 4 hr’s.
·
Incubate SCDA/SDA in inverted position for
three days at 37°C± 1°C. SCDA/SDA plates are incubated for 5-7days at 25oC±
1°C.
·
Keep one plate of both the medium as
control. Control plates should not show any colony after completion of
incubation period.
·
After completion of incubation period count
the colonies appearing on the plates and express the result as Number of CFU
/plate.
